Madelyn Kresinske of the Suffolk Public Library taught students the fundamentals of computer programming and computer science with the help of Code.org.

Students solved puzzles and created code using computational thinking and problem solving skills.

Technology affects all career fields, so it is essential for our students to have not only a familiarity with computer science but have experience, knowledge, and interest in the subject.

Before playing the games, students discussed computer science vocabulary:  programmer, code, sequence, etc. and looked at written computer code.  Pair programming allowed students to work together and to learn how to think about giving directions and instructions to another person.

Thank you Madelyn for opening our students’ minds to computer programming!
